Farmer's Market

The Farmer's Markets are held every Wednesday in Redacliffe Place, outside the Casino in Brisbane.  It runs from 10:00am to 6:00pm and is always very busy.

There are awesome fruits and vegetables from local farmers, as well as locally made treats like chocolates and mushroom dishes.  Some people also sell oils, herbs and spices!

My friend grabbed a mushroom and avocado dish from the I Heart Mushrooms tent.  It smelled so delicious!  I had already eaten though.

And I was suprised to find these vegan and raw vegan treats in a tent near the back.  They all looked so delicious!  I wish I had bought some!

Suitcase Rummage - October

Today was windy!  Apparently the winds hit over 20km/hr at one point...  It was making it very difficult to keep my plushies arranged nicely and I couldn't have my pretty bunting out on display which was a bummer.  The trees were bending crazily too which was a bit scary!

I had chocolate cupcakes out for 'sale' (people could make a donation to Animals Australia in return for a yummy cupcake).  Unfortunately I only got $9.75 for them.  Sometimes I wonder if the word 'vegan' scares people away.  Or maybe I should try carrot cupcakes?

I got to hang out with Ella from Little Lala's Jewellery all day which was awesome, but we both ended up heading home early due to the weather being so cold and terrible.

I also got to talk to Natalie from By Natalie Jane who makes these awesome Scavenger Bags from upcycled materials such as bike tubing and canvas.  Hopefully I'll be able to interview her in the future to add to my creator list.

I also bumped into someone that I had met at a previous Suitcase Rummage who was there with some friends to raise money for their TAFE exhibition, Breaking Heads, which looks awesome.

Also thanks to the lovely lady from 3things who stopped by to say hi and take a Mickie home ^_^.

Pretty excited about going to these markets!

There will be music, barefoot bowls, bongo playing, fire twirling...  Lots of awesome stuff!  Click on the picture for a bigger image :).

Kerbside Lane Market

The Kerbside Lane Markets are held on the second sunday of the month.  They're in an awesome little alleyway, hidden behind the best bar in the valley, Kerbside.

Kerbside is an awesome bar with old arm chairs and tables salvaged from the kerbside collection.  The staff are amazing and friendly.  I recommend heading there if ever you get a chance!  Hopefully there'll be another Dr. Ink & Draw event coming up soon too!

The markets hidden behind the bar run from 1-6pm and sometimes there's a band or a solo artist to chill to.  This week I barely remembered to take photos but here are some snapshots of Ink & Whim's creations, they were one of the donors for the Auction for Oxfam last month.

Suitcase Rummage - September

This month's Suitcase Rummage was a bit slow, probably due to the crummy weather.  However, I still had a good time chatting to people and reading my book, From Poverty to Power.

Dinos watching people walk by.

I got placed next to a great person who had a heap of their own designs screenprinted onto shirts.  You can find their awesome shirts here and their website is here.  Apparently I have inspired them to do some charity related work, so keep an eye on this one ;).

I somehow got photographed by Street Candy because of my 'look' but I swear I just picked up what was closest and ran out of the door!

I also got a few seconds to duck away and check out some people I haven't previously seen at the Suitcase Rummage.

Unfortunately today I only made $8.00 for Brisbane Valley Cat Rescue by selling chocolate cupcakes but managed to give away the rest free at the end of the day, so at least some people still got enjoyment out of them :).

And of course regulars such as Rock City Zombie, Pannikin and Loopy Designs were there.  I love that there's a group of regulars that you can rely upon.

Suitcase Rummage

So Sunday 5th of April was my seventh Suitcase Rummage!  Woo!

This month I was raising money for Peninsula Animal Aid.  I had a lot of people ask me if I am part of the organisation; I'm not, I just like to help out where I can through bake sales.  I managed to raise $46.60 using my amazing powers of vegan baking!

Chocolate cupcakes and carrot cake

The Suitcase Rummage is great.  It's a good opportunity for you to either sell your old stuff or to try out things that you are making yourself.  It's only $10 and to register you just have to check the blog here.

It runs from 12-5pm on the first Sunday of each month at the top of Queen Street outside the library (opposite the casino).  I encourage anyone wanting to make things to give this market a go.  If you don't make things, come along and get yourself some locally made wonders to spoil your friends (or yourself ;p).

Marky Markets

The Marky Markets are held every 3rd Sunday of the month.  This month I got to chill out with a whole bunch of awesome designers and remembered to take some photos!

First off, my little display :).  I got to share a table with the organiser of Marky Markets, which meant I didn't have to lug a table for an hour on the bus!

Kommoner
I got to hang out with my friend Ella at the market as well, which was good.  She makes some awesome stuff, I already have a collection of her brooches!  Check out an interview with her here.

Little Lala's Jewellery
Reclaimed Records was also there selling awesome journals:

As was Amanda from Hungry Designs, who I have previously written about here.

Kommon People Zine

I made a zine!  I've been wanting to make a Brisbane-focussed zine for quite some time now and I finally have!

Unfortunately I didn't have the time to get it printed out, so I have decided to make the first ever issue of Kommon People FREEEE!

To grab a copy, there are three options: click here to download the pdf, leave me your email address or shoot me an email at kommonerkraft@yahoo.com.au.

It is 12 pages of recipes, upcoming events, local crafter profiles and more!

Once you have a copy, let me know what you think and don't be afraid to share it with friends!

Suitcase Rummage - December 2010

My second Suitcase Rummage!

I almost killed myself lugging my suitcase around this time; adding wheels next time!  It is a very sexy suitcase though.

Unfortunately I only sold four plushies again this time.  There was a lot of interest in the tardis plushie and the rubik's cube that I made for friends.  However, none of the people who grabbed a business card have followed through with an order (yet).

I'm hoping that once I have a sewing machine I can focus on more complicated things like dinosaurs!  I'm also going to make some more big squids to have for sale and start experimenting with fabric and cross stitching some nerdy things for keyrings/wall hangings :).

So many plans and it has only been two months!  MLIA!
